Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for October 6-13, 2024
Sunday's Complete Comprehensive Fishing Article for Florida's Freshwater Anglers
Tropical Storm and First Quarter Moon Fishing This Week
The Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for the first full week of October gives anglers a rainy season weather forecast and a low-pressure system which will produce lots of thunderstorm activity and rainfall for the first half of the week and then diminish somewhat for the second half of the week.
The first-quarter moon phase will occur Thursday but since the moon is currently at its weakest influence position in its twenty-eight days cycle a five or slightly better feed rating is the best we can expect. But there will be a low-pressure system which creates enough fishing factor change to perhaps improve feed ratings during the first-quarter moon Thursday and Friday, but only in deeper lakes with depths of eighteen feet or more.
Remember, fish will be as deep as possible during a low-pressure hurricane but in Florida’s shallow lakes and especially large shallow lakes, the threat of real serious damage to the fishery are very likely. Fish are forced unnaturally into areas which have no oxygen or not enough oxygenated water when extremely high wave action is generated by high wind speeds. With this hurricane, the upper Kissimmee Chain of lakes could suffer severe damage to the fisheries.
All fishing factors considered, anglers will have heavy cloud cover and significant rainfall and thunderstorm activity today through Wednesday due to a low-pressure system effecting the state. But as it moves away and normal pressure returns and produces more sun than cloud, fishing will improve enough to give us fairly good first-quarter moon fishing during the sunset and sunrise periods next weekend.
