Super New Moon Fishing Next Five Days

The Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for the week of May 25, 2025, gives anglers the super new moon, lunar high, and a rainy season weather forecast which will produce a minor low-pressure system for the end of the week.

All fishing factors considered; anglers will enjoy the best fishing days of the month over the next five days. The lunar orbit perigee occurs today, and the new moon twenty-two hours later will produce a “Super” lunar effect on fish and wildlife which will continue through Wednesday due to the lunar high occurring that day.

These three lunar factors will produce an extremely high level of solar energy interruption during the daily 'overhear’ period, today through Thursday. Which will result in an abnormally high level of fish adjustment activity in the two hours before and after the overhead moon. The majority of the fish populations will be feeding at the same time for at least four hours on most bodies of water.

The length of feeding duration always depends on the state of the food chain. The stronger the food chain the longer the feeding activity. And for those of your big bass hunters, remember, the largest bass in the lake almost always wait until their preferred food group has successfully fed, at which time they move into areas of ambush to wait to inhale the unsuspecting engorged feeder.

The rainy season weather conditions forecasted offer minor good news in that the highest wind speed of the day will occur during the overhead moon period. The top speed today is predicted to climb to eight mph from the southeast. Monday a top speed of seven mph from the south will occur. Tuesday a six-mph wind will occur from the east and southeast on Wednesday. Thursday a five-mph south wind will offer little help.

Friday a low-pressure system begins to enter the state. A southwesterly wind will reach eight mph speeds. Saturday through next Monday a twelve mph southwest so south wind will provide some relief from the summer heat, again occurring during the overhead period, which will still be the best time of the day to fish.

And remember as is always the case every year, when the rainy season weather pattern begins, lightning becomes a factor to consider, especially when fishing during the new moon and full moon phases. The prime overhead and underfoot period occur when thunderstorms are most likely to occur. And since most anglers do have phones, I strongly encourage the use of software which alerts you in advance of extreme weather.

Know you escape route to a vehicle or building and learn what you should do if caught on the water during lightning. There are plenty of websites which offer advice that could save your life. Every year anglers across the state die from lightning strikes and many more escape deaths by having an escape plan that doesn’t involve a tree or tent. Play it safe and live to fish another day.
