Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for January 5-13, 2024
Sunday's Complete Comprehensive Fishing Article for Florida's Freshwater Anglers
Good Fishing in Pre-Front Conditions Today and Monday
The Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for the week of January 5-12, 2025, gives anglers a strong first quarter moon phase and a winter weather forecast which will truly be ‘Wintery”. All fishing factors considered, anglers have pre-front conditions today and Monday which will provide anglers with the best fishing days of the week.
Barometer pressure will substantially drop this afternoon through Monday afternoon causing fish to move downward for a period of adjustment—feeding as they adjust. Temperatures will rise slightly, and winds will switch from the northeast to the east and then from the south Monday morning. Wind speeds on Monday will climb to twenty mph.
Tuesday atmospheric pressure will climb enough to cause fish to return to the shallows as a high pressure cold front drops temperatures fifteen to twenty degrees. Fish will be acclimating to water temps in the lower fifties for at least the next ten days.
Fish metabolisms will slow down to the slowest annual rate starting Wednesday, which means each fish will need-to-feed at the lowest annual feed rate—the slower the metabolism, the slower the feeding activity for each fish. And in Florida, metabolisms don’t get any slower than during the low fifty-degree water temperature range periods.
It is a fact that fish feed when they need to feed during the coldest periods of the year. And that need is determined by previous ‘feeding success rates’ for each fish. However, ‘feeding success rates’ improve when there are greater numbers of fish feeding at the same time. This joint participation feeding activity occurs mostly when metabolisms reach the daily high speed and when lunar influences are strongest during the twenty-eight-day lunar cycle. In eight days, such conditions will occur.
