Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for May 31-June 7, 2026
Sunday's Comprehensive Fishing Article for Florida's Freshwater Anglers
Good full moon fishing today and Wednesday
The Florida Freshwater Fishing Forecast for May 31-June 3, 2026, gives anglers the second half of a weak full moon 7-day phase and a rainy season weather forecast which will cause overcast conditions Monday through the midweek. However, today ideal fishing conditions will occur all day leading up to the arrival of the full moon tonight.
All fishing factors considered, anglers’ best chances to catch fish will occur today due to bright sunshine with minor cloud cover causing fish to move tight to cover and occasionally move away briefly when clouds block sunlight---minor fish adjustment activity is always a plus.
Monday will produce a 15-mph west wind by the late morning hours but the remainder of the week ideal wind speeds of 8-12 mph will occur. And there will be a west to east wind direction change Wednesday with some minor pressure increase which could be enough to cause some upward adjustment activity.
The second half of the week bright sunshine will dominate with very little rainy season conditions predicted and a consistent east wind will produce ideal fishing speeds of 8-10 mph which should produce an excellent sunset-underfoot fishing bite.
So good fishing today and Wednesday due to weather changes helping the weak full moon. And Monday and Tuesday’s early to midafternoon hours will produce better than average numbers because a weak full moon is still better than no full moon.
Major Solar-Lunar Period: Today the moon is underfoot at 1:39 p.m. producing a 7-feed rating from 12-3 p.m. Daily the underfoot moon occurs later by an average of 50 min with a gradually declining feed rating which will normalize at a 5-rating Wednesday from 3-5:30 p.m.
Minor Solar Lunar Periods: Today the moonset occurs at 6:21 a.m. producing a 4-5-feed rating from 5:30-8 a.m. Daily the moonset occurs later by an average of 57 min with the same feed rating.
A second minor period happens today when the moonrise occurs at 8:58 p.m. producing a 4-5 feed rating from 8-10 p.m. Daily the moonrise occurs later by an average of 40 min with a declining feed rate which will normalize at a 3-rating by the midweek.
A third minor period happens today when the moon is overhead at 1:14 a.m. producing a 4-feed rating from 12-2:30 a.m. Daily the overhead moon occurs later by an average of 52 min and diminishes to a 3-rating by the midweek.
Best Fishing Days: The full moon at orbit apogee occurs tonight and the lunar low occurs 12 hrs. later which means the full moon will be a super “weak” full moon producing at best a 4-rating tonight and maybe a 7-feed rating Monday during the underfoot-midday period.
Cloud cover will dominate tonight through Wednesday and begin to diminish Thursday. And during the midday today a 50-50 sun-to-cloud ratio will occur which I predict will create the best fishing over the next three days during today’s midday period.
And perhaps, if the extended weather forecast results in becoming true, Wednesday’s underfoot period will produce due to a minor high-pressure system entering the state causing the winds to shift from the west to the east. Pressure will increase slightly, perhaps enough to cause fish adjustment activity Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
Lake Istokpoga S68 Spillway and Lake Level Status: Lake level average is currently at 36.33 NAVD88 with four S68 spillway gates closed. The NAVD88 Offset to NGVD29 is + 1.16 feet = 37.49NGVD29. Current maximum high level is 38.25’ NGVD and the low level is 37.50’ NVGD.
Prime Monthly Periods: May 31-June 2 last three days of a weak full moon 7-day phase, June 10-17 strongest super new moon possible-solid 10 rating for 4 of the 7-day phase due to the orbit perigee and lunar high occurring within the same 24 hours of the new moon. July 11-17 very strong super new moon phase, 26-31very weak full moon phase, August 9-15new moon phase, 25-30 full moon phase.
